STATEMENT of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders
22.05.2019May 22, 2019 Bishkek
We, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders recall the feat of heroes who demonstrated courage, unbreakable will, fortitude and strength of spirit in the fight against the cruel aggressor during the Great Patriotic War.
Belarus was one of the first to take upon itself the blow of the Nazi invaders in June 1941. The war has left bloody wounds on the Belarusian soil, the Republic has lost almost a third of its population, thousands of cities and villages have been destroyed and burned.
Almost all of the population stood up for the fight against the invaders. The unprecedented in scope guerrilla and underground movement have been carried out. The heroic resistance of the Belarusian people continued until the enemy was completely banished.
In the battles for the liberation of Belarus, thousands of representatives of our peoples have given their lives. Their heroic feat is forever inscribed in the pages of the history of the fight against Nazism. The strategic offensive operation "Bagration", which played a crucial role in the liberation of Belarus, went down in history as one of the outstanding World War II victories.
Alongside with the fraternal peoples of the USSR and the countries of the anti-Hitlerite coalition, the Belarusian people defended their right to live in their native land and made an invaluable contribution to the historic Victory over fascism in 1945.
In the year of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, we encourage to cherish the memory of the great bravery of millions of soldiers, partisans, underground fighters, civilians who sacrificed their lives fighting for freedom, peace and justice.
Keeping forever the memory of the victory over the "brown plague", we reject and strongly condemn any attempts to revise the assessment of the events of the Second World War and its results. We emphasize the need to preserve and properly look after military graves and military monuments of the Great Patriotic War.
We call upon all states and peoples to counter the manifestations of neo-fascism and neo-Nazi ideology, justifications and glorifications of Nazism, and promotion of intolerance on racial, ethnic, and religious grounds.
While honouring the blessed memory of all those who fell for the freedom and independence of our peoples, with deep gratitude to the veterans, to whom we owe a debt that can never be repaid, we are confident that the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus will become a universal celebration of peace and harmony, and call for a comprehensive dialogue aimed to strengthen the international security system.
